Lac La Biche County was formed in August of 2007, when the Town of Lac La Biche and Lakeland County amalgamated. The result is a diverse mixture of urban and rural areas. Lac La Biche County is home to Plamondon, a hamlet rich in francophone history and has bilingual signage throughout the hamlet. 11% of the population of the county can hold a conversation in French and many of the tourism products of the country can be found in both languages. The francophone school in Lac La Biche promises to support the region’s next generation of Francophones.
