Grande Prairie has a rich early Métis, Indigenous and white settler history and now boasts a multitude of cultural activities that celebrate its roots, including the Maple Sugar Festival - a staple of francophone culture. The francophone population of Grande Prairie is of approximately 10 000 people and the city has both francophone elementary and high schools in addition to its multiple immersion schools.
